Richard Murphy in final two for China whisky project
Richard Murphy’s ‘zigzag’ proposal for the Lang-jiu Whisky Headquarters in China has made it to the final two of the international design competition
The Edinburgh-based company will battle it out with a Californian practice for the lucrative project.
The site is located above the vast gorge of the Red River in a remote corner of Sechwan Province.
Murphy’s design takes advantage of the topography by connecting opposite ends of the site with a structure inspired by traditional Chinese landscaped bridges.
The proposal meanders through the hillside culminating with a trapezoid shaped office building that perches on the cliff edge.
The practice were invited by the New Horizon Development Company to submit an entry for the headquarters, and have now been asked to submit a revised scheme based on feedback from the Chengdu-based developer.
A decision is expected in early November.
