Issy-les-Moulineaux, France

French external broadcasting company AEF is seeking architects and a BET (bureau d’étude) for the re-use or renovation of a site (presumed to be at Issy-les-Moulineaux) of 17,000 m² to 19,000 m² for broadcasting.

AEF (the French equivalent of the BBC World Service) consists of RFI (Radio France Internationale), France 24 and Somera (the commercial name of Monte Carlo Doualiya or MCD), covering television, radio and multimedia.

The presence of the companies in different locations - while keeping the individual identities of RFI, France 24 and MCD - is seen as a handicap to the modernisation and development of AEF.

The deadline for applications is 12pm on 9 July and the application language is French.

French historian Marc Bloch

French historian Marc Bloch

The regional council of Languedoc-Roussillon is seeking services for the design, production and placement of work by living artist for a new grammar-school with 1,588 pupils. The contract for the work of art for the new lycée Marc Bloch in Serignan is worth 280,000 Euros.

Five artists are to be shortlisted, each receiving 4,000 euros. The selection criteria is 60 per cent artistic quality, 20 per cent technical quality, 20 per cent price. It is understood the new school is being designed by Montpellier architect François Fontès.

The school is named after the remarkable historian Marc Bloch who was one of the co-founders of the Annales school of historians who introduced the use of social scientific methods into the study of history, giving emphasis to social events rather than politics and diplomacy.

Bloch served with distinction in the First World War (Légion d’honneur and Croix ge guerre). Aged 53, he insisted - despite being technically invalided out - in serving as what he described as the oldest Captain in the French Army in 1940.

Despite being expelled from his work because of his Jewish origins, a dispensation was obtained by Jérôme Carcopino, Minister in the Vichy Government. Eventually reaching the Unoccupied Zone at Montpellier, Bloch began working with the French Resistance in 1942, initially with the Franc-Tireur movement which became part of the Mouvements unis de la Résistance under Resistance leader Jean Moulin.

Bloch was arrested and tortured by the Gestapo in Lyon in 1944 and shot on 16 June.

The deadline for applications is 12pm on 10 August and the application language is French.
