An architect is needed for Phase 4 of the redevelopment of the Raimoul pre-history site at Flémalle near Liège, Belgium. Created in 1994, the site is a themed history museum with 40,000 visitors a year, intended to be increased to 70,000.
This phase includes a large new temporary exhibitions hall, store for visitable finds, educational route and play area on the theme of man in pre-history and relevance for people today and in the future, with catering, administration and logistics areas. The project is worth between 4,000,000 Euros and 5,000,000 Euros.
The contract is for architecture, landscape, interior and exterior signage, fixtures and display-design.
The site includes the Raimoul, Lyell and Rosée caves which were occupied up to seventy thousand years ago and feature cave fauna unique in Belgium. The Lyell cave is named after geologist and influential friend of Charles Darwin, Charles Lyell (pictured) who visited the site in 1860 to verify Philippe-Charles Schmerling’s 1831 discoveries.
The museum has educational displays of stone tools, the discovery of fire, bow and arrow or spear hunting, and meals can be eaten which are prepared with resources which would have been available in pre-history.
The application deadline is 11am on 1 September and the application language is French.
