RIBA opens Alne Wood Park burial site contest

[Registrations close on Thursday 15 November 2012] The RIBA has opened a competition for a £600,000 non-denominational reception building at Alne Wood Park in Warwickshire

Part of a planned new ‘environmentally-friendly’ burial site, the building will be used for commemorative services and will include catering facilities and offices.

The Heart of England Forest-backed burial site will create a green alternative to the UK’s increasingly over-subscribed cemeteries where friends and relatives will be encouraged to plant trees to commemorate their loved ones.

Up to four teams will be shortlisted and will receive a £4,000 honorarium to present their proposals.

Registrations close on Thursday 15 November 2012 and the deadline for Expressions of Interest is 2pm on Tuesday 20 November 2012.

The contest is being run by RIBA Competitions on behalf of the landowner Felix Dennis.
