RIBA launches contest for £100m Maidenhead revamp

[Expressions of interest are due 21 February] The RIBA has opened a two-stage design contest for the £100 million mixed-use regeneration of Maidenhead town centre

UK-based teams are invited to register for the contest which seeks ‘imaginative’ visions for the already-masterplanned 19,020m² triangular site set to feature retail, offices, apartments and a public plaza.

The project involves the demolition of existing buildings on a 1.9 hectare site bounded by Broadway, King Street and Queen Street and the construction and the construction of a new ‘landmark’ building forming a southern gateway to the Berkshire town.

The project is being run on behalf of Ryger Maidenhead and The London and Aberdeen Group with Smedvig Eiendom AS of Norway.

Three shortlisted teams will receive £7,000 to develop designs.

Expressions of interest are due by 2pm on 21 February.
