RIAS Convention 2009: Live blog
The antidote to the recession: hear all the gossip from the Scots enjoying a knees-ups at this year’s RIAS Convention
From Neil Baxter, Secretary & Treasurer RIAS, 10.13
The Convention has already received the fond wishes of the Scottish Minister for Architecture Mike Russell. This morning some delegates had the unexpected pleasure of meeting David Cameron over breakfast at the Dundee Apex, the Convention Hotel. Unfortunately, he explained, he wasn’t in town for our Convention due to a prior commitment in Perth…however he did ask me to pass on his greetings to the delegates so although we don’t have the sunshine we enjoyed yesterday at least we are basking in the glow of Cross-Party approbation!

Enjoyed gentle rural mood and pace of Thursday afternoon - some fond collaborations between art and architecture-in wonderful sites! Greatly appreciated Fergus Purdie links to Patrick Geddes.

David Mach’s memorable images of brick train and sharp observations on having to coax groups in smoke filled rooms is familiar to most architects. Like his observations on how long it takes to realize that not everyone likes him or his work!

Stands - .Don’t think the shell stands allow for free movememt between the exhibitors especially when there a lot of delgates. Any feedback about exhibit good or bad would be appreciated. We are always interested to know what ways the Architects think we can help.

Timing. With things overunning we did not get a lot of time with the architects as they had to rush to get their food and get back into the presentations.
