Revealed: Heatherwick and Foster's Shanghai Bund Finance Centre
The AJ can reveal the first images of Thomas Heatherwick and Foster + Partners’ huge 420,000m2 Shanghai Bund International Financial Centre in China
The British team is understood to have beaten MVRDV and OMA in a hush-hush contest last year to redevelop the key plot in the historic area of the City which once housed international trading houses and banks.
Work has already started on site of the prize scheme for the Shanghai Zandai Real Estate Company which includes two office towers, a hotel, cinema, central plaza and shopping mall. The centre features a link bridge to the river front.
Surrey-headquartered Mott MacDonald is also working on the scheme, including a role overseeing design strategy and supervising the construction.
The north plot of the scheme is due to be complete in 2014, with the south plot expected to finish a year later in 2015.
