Revealed: first pictures of Zaha Hadid boat

These are the first picture of the Z Boat - an 8m-long motorboat designed by Zaha Hadid for US art dealer Kenny Schachter

The limited production vessel is being built by Shoreteam in France and the first seaworthy boat is due for release in spring next year (2013).

Hadid has already designed two conceptual cars for Schachter’s Rove Projects (AJ 03.11.2005).

It is understood Schachter has also asked Rem Koolhaas to design a hybrid sail and motor yacht.

Design statement:

The asymmetrical design is sculptural in appearance while practically affording more seating accommodations. In a sense, the bespoke boat is as much a work of art as a Cisitalia sports car in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The idea is to think of vessels and vehicles as highly individualistic expressions of art, architecture and design reflecting the edge of what is possible using the most advanced means, including materials, software systems and methods of fabrication.

  • That's useful - a Stealth Boat... Think I'd rather have the Swedish Navy Corvette http://www.thinkmaritime.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/stealth-ship.jpg

  • I overheard a conversation on a bus yesterday. Two ladies were discussing flower arrangements for an upcoming wedding. One noted to other that ‘the boutique flower store charged 4 times as much as the guy’s at on the high street’. The other said, ‘umm, they are wrapped nicely though'. Her friend replied, 'as soon as you put them in a vase they are the same as the other, and they don’t last any longer so what’s the point’. Sadly, it’s all about the packaging I thought to myself.
