Red Shed by Haworth Tompkins arrives on London’s Southbank

Haworth Tompkins’ temporary venue – called The Shed – is nearing completion outside the National Theatre in London

The 225-seat auditorium will open in April and will be dedicated to ‘emerging voices’ and new theatre.

The red timber-clad structure will serve for a year as an additional stage while the National Theatre’s Cottesloe venue is refurbished.

Haworth Tompkins’ is working on a £70 million overhaul of the Grade II*-listed Denys Lasdun-designed landmark. The project was awarded £11 million by the Heritage Lottery Fund earlier this month.
