RARE nets monster Bangkok shopping mall scheme

[First look + project data] London-based RARE Architecture has been chosen to design a 120,000m2 shopping mall in Bangkok

Leading Thai retail developer CPN has commissioned RARE to design the three-storey building which will provide a ‘hybrid of indoor and outdoor’ shopping.

The appointment comes two years after practice co-founder Nathalie Rozencwajg was commended in the AJ Emerging Woman Architect of the Year award category.

The city centre structure will feature gardens, a luxury fashion arcade and a total of 78,000m2 of retail.

According to the practice: ‘The project connects natural forms and textures into the cityscape through an ambiguous façade system which acts as cladding, canopy and signage in a single evolving element.’

A ‘forest canopy’ will also be created by extending the façade structure over the fashion arcade and ‘enclosing and modifying the environment to complement the activity below.’
