PRP wins massive Russian theatre project
PRP Architects has won the contest to design a multi-purpose complex on Vasilievsky Island, St Petersburg, featuring four residential towers
The practice saw off second stage finalist Architecture Studio of Paris to bag the prize project on the 3.3ha island located the mouth of the Smolenka River.
As well as a new venue for the Pugacheva theatre, which is described as ‘a gilded shimmering box inspired by the Golden Ballroom at St. Catherine’s Palace’, the development incudes 800 serviced apartments, a five star, 200-bedroom hotel with roof top ‘sky bar’ and 150,000m² of office and retail space.
PRP design director, Jeff Brooks said: ‘We are delighted to be involved in a project of such local significance. The rich mix of commerce, community and the arts, coupled with a dramatic St Petersburg location is an exciting opportunity to create a vibrant, arts-based community.’
