Porphyrios completes ‘neo-classical’ Islington homes

[First look + plans] Work has completed on this the neo-classical, 119-home scheme in Islington, north London by Porphyrios Associates

The £30 million project in Holloway Road for developer First Base, was one of five ‘stalled’ projects in the capital given a cash handout by the Homes and community Agency back in 2009. The scheme was delivered by John Robertson Architects.

According to the developer , the project meets Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, with 20 per cent of the development’s energy demand being met by on-site renewable energy.

A spokesman described the scheme as ‘marrying the best of classical architecture and modern design, and is designed for longevity, both physically and culturally.’

The one, two and three bedroom homes are built around an ‘elegantly landscaped’ courtyard, ‘complementing the traditional design of the scheme’ and responding to the two neighbouring  ‘conservation zones of Georgian and Victorian architecture’.
