Populous unveils Silverstone pit lane scheme

[FIRST LOOK] Populous has revealed images of its new Silverstone pit lane and paddock complex, part of a £5m revamp of the Northamptonshire circuit

The structure, which is scheduled to complete in summer 2011, will feature new garages, a race control building, media centre, hospitality and VIP spectator zones.

The Populous-designed circuit in February won Bernie Ecclestone’s approval, who announced it would host the 2010 British Grand Prix.

The F1 supremo had previously criticised Silverstone for its ‘poor’ spectator facilities.

John Barrow, senior principal of Populous said: ‘Silverstone produced an exciting challenge for us, as on top of the time‐frame we had the task of improving on what was already one of the greatest circuits in the world.

‘Having completed the first stage of the redevelopment work on the circuit, we are delighted to continue our relationship with the British Racing Drivers Club  into next year and are pleased to be involved with the further improvement to the pit lane and paddock here at Silverstone.’

The Formua 1 average speed on the 5.9km track is 252kph, taking one minute and 23 seconds to complete.
