PLP is to open its first permanent office in the Middle East ahead of an anticipated increase in workload in the region

The London-based practice has registered premises in the Qatari capital Doha to service projects in the country.

The firm, formed in 2009, is working on a number of projects in the Middle East including buildings for Doha’s new port.

PLP president Lee Polisano told AJ: ‘We have always had a reasonable amount of work in the Middle East and this will reinforce our presence.

‘We have one or two projects in Qatar and an expectation that we will have a few others in the near future.’

Polisano said the office was likely to grow to a headcount of ’10 or 12’ through a mixture of local appointments and staff transfers from the UK.

Qatar is gearing up to host the 2022 World Cup and has been highlighted as a boom market for UK architects.

The country was described last year by HOK London chief Barry Hughes as the ‘premiership’ of building design.
