Plans submitted for Allies and Morrison’s Westfield White City expansion

Allies and Morrison has submitted outline plans for a £1 billion extension to the Westfield shopping centre in White City, London

The nine hectare masterplan will create 1,600 new homes on land to the north of Westfield London shopping centre which opened in 2008.

The £1.6 billion shopping mall was eventually designed by Westfield’s in-house team. However a Rem Koolhaas has previously drawn up a masterplan for the west London shopping Mecca and Ian Ritchie had also worked on the project prior to Westfield taking over the project from rival Multiplex in 2005.

Submitted to London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, the scheme also features community facilities, shops and a department store.

Frank Wingate, West London Business chief executive said: ‘As the representative body for the business community in this part of London, we fully support Westfield’s latest proposals within the White City Opportunity Area. The plans will deliver 2,500 much-needed new jobs and further investment to West London, bringing more customers to other businesses in Hammersmith and Fulham.’

If the scheme is approved, the developer aims to commence detailed design development next year with a start on site expected before 2014.
