Pie's Corr to head up Belfast architecture centre
Michael Corr of Pie has been appointed creative director of the PLACE centre for the built environment in Belfast
Corr – who previously worked at East and Design for London – said PLACE would now focus on supporting Northern Ireland’s move towards a devolved planning system.
Commenting on the appointment, he said: ‘I am extremely excited about the appointment as creative director of PLACE and the opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of planning and architecture in Northern Ireland.
‘Planning is set to change in Northern Ireland over the next five years as it is devolved from central government to 11 new district councils.
‘PLACE will be a key player working together with councils, community organisations and groups such as the Forum for Alternative Belfast to help develop and deliver plans.’
The organisation will also help deliver Northern Ireland’s new Living Places Design Guide – launched recently by environment minister Mark H Durkan – Corr added.
The Pie co-founder will work part-time for PLACE while continuing to practice and teach at London Metropolitan University.
Olympics regeneration guru Clive Dutton was picked to create an action plan for Gaeltacht Quarter in West Belfast earlier this month.
