Piercy Conner unveils 'house-in-an-arch' proposals
Piercy Conner Architects has revealed designs for a ‘new London vernacular’ - a house in a brick arch
Accoridng to the practice, the four storey scheme is based on the proportions of a Georgian terrace and can be sub-divided into four single-bed apartments of kept as a single, six bedroom house.
The ‘super efficient’ brick structure has been inspired by the capital’s many railway arches.
Practice parnet, Stuart Piecy said: ‘Why do people love the Georgian town house so much? They are adaptable, solid, beautifully proportioned, decorated giving a feeling of importance or civic pride, light filled and above all they are loved by everybody – even modernists.
‘I believe it is a time for ambition, innovation and progress – London has built a lot of mediocre stuff and now we must move on to address a whole new set of conditions.
h concluded: ‘We are searching for a strong identity that is neither modern, classical or fashionable but appropriate and sympathetic in form and materials.’
