Piercy & Co bags green light for Islington homes

Piercy & Company has won planning for this 570m² scheme in Mildmay Grove North, Islington, housing four apartments and an artist studio

Sat at the end of a Georgian terrace, the project will feature patterned cast masonry floor surfaces and facade treatments designed in collaboration with artist Gillian Singer.

Work will start on site in the autumn.

The architect’s view

The contemporary scheme is located at the end of Mildmay Grove North, a street of elegant three-storey Georgian terraced houses. Careful referencing of the robust masonry and large window openings of the adjacent terraced houses grounds the scheme in this setting.

The overall form has been carved from a solid to provide vertical proportions and dual aspect views across the railway cutting.

The proportions and composition of the proposal continues the Georgian grain of Mildmay Grove North.

Window openings carefully wrap the side of the building to maintain the window proportions whilst an inset college window gives oblique, unobstructed views outwards.
