Oxford Architects bags planning for Broadmoor overhaul
Oxford Architects has won planning permission to revamp Broadmoor mental health hospital in Berkshire
Bracknell Forest Council gave the go ahead for the £254 million upgrade to the secure mental hospital subject to completion of a section 106 planning agreement, which will lay out what additional contributions to community facilities must be provided, reported sister title Construction News.
The project, for West London Mental Health NHS Trust, includes 10 new wards and upgrades to six existing ones - much of it built in 1863 - as well as a new entrance and central facilities buildings, a replacement energy centre, new gardens, recreation areas and landscaping.
Construction is expected to start in the autumn of 2013 and the new hospital is expected to open to patients in late 2016.
