OMA completes revamp of Rotterdam Kunsthal

[First look + project details] OMA has completed a major overhaul of its Rotterdam Kunsthal project more than 20 years after the iconic building opened to the public

The locally-based practice was commissioned to improve the energy, security, program and circulation of the high-profile arts centre which it completed in 1992.

New high performance glass facades and roofing, an upgraded climate system and energy efficient lighting allowed the practice to reduce the iconic building’s energy consumption.

The project also created a new entrance allowing visitors to access the structure’s auditorium and exhibition spaces independently.

The Kunsthal overhaul was led by OMA partner Ellen van Loon, and associates Michel van de Kar and Alex de Jong.
