New images of Wilkinson Eyre’s Barangaroo tower revealed

Wilkinson Eyre has unveiled fresh images of its competition-winning hotel tower scheme for Barangaroo in Sydney

The double Stirling Prize winner defeated Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture and KPF to land the coveted $1.5 billion project in May.

The practice revealed its latest designs for the 270 metre-tall hotel resort at a breakfast meeting in Sydney yesterday (22 July).

The building’s lower three floors will feature retail and a casino surrounded a ‘veil of struts’ inspired by Christopher Wren’s St Paul’s Cathedral in London – according to the architects.

Chris Wilkinson reportedly told the conference: ‘My ambition is to create a sculptural form that will rise up on the skyline like an inhabited artwork, with differing levels of transparency, striking a clear new image against the sky.’

The victorious scheme will be built next to Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners’ contentious three-tower Barangaroo project for developer Lend Lease.

Planned to complete in 2018, the skyscraper is expected to feature 350 bedrooms and around 100 luxury apartments.
