Muf bags place on Bankside Urban Forest longlist

Muf, Publicworks, Carl Turner Architects and We Made That are among sixteen teams longlisted to design installations for the Bankside Urban Forest in London

The practices were chosen from 50 entries to the competition which is run by Better Bankside on behalf of the Bankside Urban Forest partnership.

The contest brief called for ‘creative responses’ which compliment recent public realm upgrades to Union Street such as Flat Iron Square by Witherford Watson Mann Architects.

A derelict development plot on the road – which runs east to west through Bankside – was home to the Architecture Foundation’s Bankside Urban Orchard garden installation (pictured) in 2010 and a physic garden last summer.

The site was also transformed into the Southwark Lido by EXYZT in 2009 but is now closed and undergoing redevelopment.

The winners are expected to be announced this month.
