Moxon Architects unveils St Helens bridge

Moxon Architects has released images of its pedestrian and cycle bridge linking the St Helens Rugby League stadium with the centre of the Merseyside town

Designed with structural engineer Flint & Neill, the competition-winning, 46m-span bridge has a shallow-arched deck suspended from a ‘looping’ cradle.

A spokesman for the practice said: ‘This bridge is intended as a physically minimal and visually simple but dynamic structure that expresses the connection of the new St Helens Rugby League Stadium development with the Town Centre.

‘The primary goal with the design is to reconcile the requirement for a visually legible structure when viewed from a distance, understandable as part of the Stadium development, with a feeling of security for bridge users over the carriageway.’
