Move over Hancock - Boles takes on construction business brief

Former planning minister Nick Boles has taken on a new departmental responsiblity for construction within the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.

It was initially announced that Matthew Hancock would take on the construction role following the July reshuffle.

Boles, the Conservative MP for Grantham and Stamford, was originally given a new position as Minister of State jointly for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department for Education, with Hancock expected to take up construction as part of his wider ministerial responsibilities.

However, speaking to AJ’s sister title Construction News, a BIS spokesman said that the decision to add construction to Boles brief was made ‘late last week’.

Commenting on the appointment Liz Peace, Chief Executive of the British Property Federation, said: ‘We are pleased to see that Nick Boles has been allocated the construction brief, and believe that his background as planning minister will serve him well in this new role.

‘Boles’ understanding of the issues that the commercial and residential property sectors face will be particularly helpful as he takes on this new patch.’
