McHugh Stoppard redesigns youth centre for Children in Need
Liverpool-based McHugh Stoppard Architecture has designed and helped rebuild a rundown youth centre in aid of Children in Need
The practice donated its architectural and planning services as part of a special DIY SOS programme for the BBC featuring the dilipatidated Norris Green Youth Centre.
Staff from the studio also helped with demolition and plastering. The full refurbishment of the youth club, which had been described as looking more like a ‘detention centre’, was completed in just 10 days.
Architect and Director, Daniel Smith, said: ‘The centre carries out some fantastic work and the renovation will undoubtedly help improve people’s lives.’
The special episode of DIY SOS: The Big Build, was shown last Thursday (10 November 2011).
Norris Green Youth and Community Centre, is situated in one of the most deprived areas in Liverpool. It is open seven days a week and 50 children and young people attend every night.
