McAslan completes Tipton Academy

[FIRST LOOK + PROJECT DATA] John McAslan + Partners has opened the doors to its new £25 million academy building in Tipton, the west Midlands

Backed by £2 million worth of RSA charity sponsorship, the project completed in August 2010 and was officially opened last week by the RSA president The Duke of Edinburgh.

Michael Gernon, school principal, said: ‘The academy’s flexible design will be key in implementing the Opening Minds curriculum and reflects our school’s values, which are summed-up by our motto, “transforming learning, transforming lives”.’

The 1,100-pupil facility features three new buildings and the refurbished remains of Willingsworth High School which previously occupied the site.

Classrooms overlook a cricket pitch while the font façade features vertical planting. A main road-facing media wall will also project images and school news to the public.
