Make wins luxury resort in Montenegro

Practice wins competition to masterplan and design a luxury resort in Montenegro, fending off rival bids from Foreign Office Architects, MVRDV and Heatherwick Studios

The development on the cliff-top site is targeted at the upper echelons of Montenegro’s rapidly growing tourist industry and include a luxury hotel, residential apartments, private access to a secluded beach, leisure facilities and a selection of restaurants and bars.

Make’s idea uses the advantageous topography to provide dramatic views out over the Adriatic coast. The scheme outlines three ‘landmark beacon’ hotel towers situated 100m above sea level, between which are clusters of residential buildings all looking out to sea. Plans for a funicular railway on the site would connect the development to the beach below.

Make professes that the scheme is intended to be ‘as self-sufficient as possible’, potentially even generating its own hydro-electric power from a stream.

Bibiana Zapf from Make said: ‘This is a dream project for any architect. The location is truly unrivalled. We are looking forward to progressing with the design and masterplan.’
