Major academic appointments for UN Studio duo

The co-founder of Amsterdam-based international practice UN Studio has been appointed as an honorary professor at the University of Melbourne

Caroline Bos will contribute to teaching and research at the Australian institution’s Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning through lectures, master classes and student critics.

In March UN Studio, where she is principal urban planner, won permission for its first UK scheme - a 30-storey residential tower in north London.

An exhibition of recent projects by the practice is being held in the Wunderlich Gallery at the University until 10 August.

Bos’ appointment comes as fellow UN Studio co-founder Ben van Berkel had his role extended at Harvard University in the US.

Van Berkel will remain Kenzo Tange visiting professor chair at the renowned university’s Graduate School of Design for three years.

A number of architects have recently been given high profile deanships in universities across the UK.

David Dernie became dean of architecture and the built environment at Westminster University, while Anne Boddington was appointed dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Brighton (AJ 02.08.2012).

Others to take on big roles included Oren Lieberman at the Arts University College Bournemouth, Alan Penn at The Bartlett; and Steven Spier at Kingston University.
