LSE reveals shortlist for student centre

The London School of Economics has shortlisted six firms for a new £21.5 million students centre on the Aldwych campus in Central London

O’Donnell & Tuomey, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Danes 3XN, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, David Chipperfield and de Rijke Marsh Morgan were unveiled as the finalists in the RIBA-led competition.

Each of the firms will receive a £6,000 honorarium, and will now visit the campus before producing concept designs.

New facilities on the site will include a student union reception, bars, café, entertainment venues, advice and counselling centre, fitness suite, inter-faith prayer centre, media facilities and offices.

Teams must submit their concept designs by June 5, with judging, including interviews, taking place in the last week of June.

The AJ reported in March the launch of the competition, which marks the next step in the LSE’s £200 million campus development programme.
