LHC wins go-ahead for luxury Plymouth Hoe flats

[Plans + project data] South West-based architects LHC has won planning permission for this £4.5million ‘luxury’ housing scheme at Plymouth Hoe

Designed for Devington Homes, the five-storey seafront scheme will house 14 luxury two and three bedroom apartments as well as underground car parking and a café.

The practice initially proposed a taller six-storey building for the Pier Street site in the West Hoe Conservation area, but subsequently dropped the height by a storey.

Graham Devine, who is based at LHC’s Plymouth studio, said: ‘The site provided a challenge to us architecturally, an urban island visible from sides and overlooked from the slopes of The Hoe above.”

‘It is a prime site between a much-loved city park and a contemporary pastiche of an early Victorian Terrace.

He added: ‘e have adopted a contemporary contextual approach, taking into account the scale and rhythm of the surrounding architecture and maximising the wonderful natural assets offered by Plymouth’s waterfront’.

  • The ground floor plan is showing a lift which is understandable, but surely with the DDA regs you require a level approach and you cant have a flight of steps leading upto this as shown...am I missing something?
