Laird sails to Paddington victory

Edinburgh-based Michael Laird Architects has won a limited design competition for a series of business barges at the Robin Partington-masterplanned Merchant Square development in Paddington Basin for developer European Land

The floating project - part of a joint venture between the developer and the British Waterways Board - has yet to be submitted for planning.

A 21-storey residential scheme by Partington overlooking the Grand Union Canal in west London (pictured) has started on site.
