KPF, Patel Taylor and Grid land Shell Centre jackpot

The AJ can reveal that Kohn Pederson Fox (KPF), Patel Taylor and Grid Architects have been appointed to work on Squire and Partners’ masterplan for the redevelopment of the Shell Centre on London’s South Bank

The three practices will work alongside Squire and Partners to design individual buildings with office and residential use within the site.

A spokesperson for the developers said: ‘Our aim is to re-energise the area with new, dynamic buildings and high quality public spaces that will complement recent and future developments.’

‘Each of the leading architects we have appointed demonstrated their world-class expertise, which is exactly what we need to redevelop this very special part of London.’

A 27-storey skyscraper, part of architect Howard Robertson’s original 1961 Shell Centre complex, will remain as headquarters for the Anglo-Dutch energy company, but all the other buildings are set to go.

Independent consultation workshops will take on 16 and 17 May, providing another chance for local residents, businesses and visitors to the South Bank to share their views on the mixed use redevelopment of the Shell Centre site on London’s South Bank.
