Koen Steemers takes over at Cambridge School of Architecture

Koen Steemers will take over from Nick Bullock as head of department this month

Steemers was officially appointed in 2008 but Bullock stepped in to cover while he was on sabbatical.

An architect and sustainable design specialist, Steemers has been a lecturer in the department since 1995 and before that was a Research Associate and doctoral student in the Martin Centre.

His current work deals with the architectural potential of environmental issues such as energy, light and comfort. His research activities are focused on the environmental performance of buildings and cities – with a particular interest in human perception and behaviour – which are the topics of funded research projects and his PhD students.
