John McAslan + Partners' Indian nursing institute starts on site

[FIRST LOOK] Work has begun on John McAslan + Partners’ Indian Institute of Advanced Nursing (IIAN) project in Chennai, India

The £2.6 million education facility for the Clinton Health Access Initiative specialises in HIV care.

Set on a 2 hectare site to the south west of Chennai, the facility features an ‘Institute’ dedicated to teaching and a ‘Hostel’ providing accommodation for trainee nurses.

Hannah Lawson, director of education and culture at the practice, said ‘The impact of the IIAN will be far reaching. The new campus buildings will not only act as a draw for nurses internationally but will also have a significant effect on the local community’.

Both buildings incorporate a ‘heavy external skin’ and reflective materials to reduce solar gain.

The project is due for completion in 2012.
