Jestico + Whiles bags graphene centre jackpot

Jestico + Whiles has been appointed to design the new £35million Innovation Hub for new super-material graphene at the University of Manchester

The facility, plans for which were announced at this year’s MIPIM, will be a world-leading research and incubator centre dedicated to the development of grapheme which is 200 times stronger than steel and just one atom thick.

University of Manchester Professors Konstantin Novoselov and Andre Geim were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2010 for their pioneering work on graphene and they will collaborate with the design team to develop a world class centre for research and innovation.

Led by EC Harris through the OGC Framework, the design team also includes CH2MHill as lab specialist and services engineer, and Ramboll as civil and structural engineer.
