In pictures: Sketch-a-facade victors celebrated
The winners, jury and sponsors of the AJ/Kingspan Benchmark Sketch-a-Facade competition came together yesterday for a lunch at the Rivington Grill in Shoreditch, London.
Alan Dunlop, whose lecture on the art of drawing in March kicked off the competition which attracted 588 entries, said: ‘It was a real pleasure to be involved in the competition and I thought it incredible that it attracted over 500 submissions. The standard was very high and so, as someone pushing for hand drawing to be once again considered a fundamental part of the craft of architecture, I found the whole process very rewarding.’
Fellow judge artist Patricia Cain was among the guests, along with 18 architects and students whose work appeared in the Sketch-a-Facade edition of AJ, including runner-up and small project shortlisted architect Adrian Baynes (see AJ 28.06.2012), and George Saumerez Smith of Adam Architecture.

Wonderful to see a celebration of craft and artistic ambition -even if it means yet another lunch.....
