In Pictures: Kieran Timberlake’s US embassy submitted for planning
A detailed planning application has been submitted for Kieran Timberlake’s cube-shaped US Embassy located in Nine Elms, south London
The 0.9 hectare proposal – submitted by the US Department of State – includes an 11-storey ‘Chancery’ building plus three smaller pavilions.
The competition-winning scheme will provide office accommodation for 805 workers and features six elevated gardens and a half-sized basketball pitch for staff.
In 2010, the studio beat Richard Meier, Morphosis Architects and Pei Cobb Freed & Partners to win the high profile job.
The scheme features three entry pavilions and is designed to reflect ‘democracy, grace, openness [and] transparency’, according to the planning application.
Gensler has been appointed to work on the project’s workplace design.
