In pictures: Architects reveal Room for London competition entries

[FIRST LOOK + PLANS] These are the first images of selected entries to the Room for London competition to design a rooftop holiday home on London’s Southbank

Currently at the ‘top secret’ shortlist stage, it is understood as many as 500 practices submitted proposals to the competition which sought design ideas for a temporary apartment to be built on Queen Elizabeth Hall’s roof in the Southbank arts centre.

Organised by Living Architecture and Art Angel in association with the Southbank Centre and the London 2012 Festival, the one-bedroom ‘home/hotel’ structure is planned as a ‘space for quiet reflection’ amidst London’s noise.

The room will also be used by members of the public, and reserved for a few days each month for the use of ‘special visitors’ such as athletes and artists.

The winner will be announced in early February.
