Hunt begins for architect to design RIBA lounge at MIPIM UK

The RIBA is on the lookout for a ‘creative and ingenious’ practice to mastermind the institute’s £10,000 lounge for the upcoming MIPIM UK property expo

Open to RIBA chartered members and chartered practices, the competition seeks a designer for an ‘exciting meeting venue with an architectural feel’ to promote the institute.

The winning team – to be announced 21 July – will receive £5,000 in fees to design the 200m² installation which is supported by Herman Miller and event organiser Reed Midem.

More than 3,000 property professionals are expected to attend the global property summit’s UK spinoff inside London’s Olympia from 15 to 17 October.

The venue must seat around 70 people and include space for up to 30 chartered practices to exhibit. The winning team’s design will need to be built in a day and the furniture will be supplied by Herman Miller.

Applications should include a 10-page, A4-sized portfolio demonstrating previous experience of creating temporary installations and interesting business spaces.

Submissions may also include a single paragraph explaining your interest in the scheme.

The competition jury will include RIBA London director Tamsie Thomson, Carl Turner of Carl Turner Architects, Reed-Midem sales director Peter de Soissons and Herman Miller’s Andrew Duncomb.

Practices must register by 7 July and the deadline for applications is 11 July.
