House extension, Torquay, Devon, by Stan Bolt: Architect

[FIRST LOOK] Stan Bolt: Architect has completed a new extension to an Arts & Crafts style house in Torquay

The addition to the Torquay home in Manscombe Road by Stan Bolt: Architect attempts ‘to address the harsh transition between the interior’ of the house and its large garden which has panoramic views over Torbay.

The two story extension was conceived as a ‘sculpted pavilion’ which connects lightly to the original building in order to retain the original character of the home. The house’s original exterior tiling will remain uninterrupted to create a sharp contrast between the old and the new structures.

On the ground floor, the extension continues the original house’s white render, but over the highly glazed first floor, a copper alloy roof canopy is introduced to provide shelter and shade with a gesture ‘appropriate to the drama of its surroundings’ according to the architect.
