[First look] Westminster City Council has granted planning permission for this 63-home scheme by Henley Halebrown Rorrison
The affordable housing project Castle Lane aims to offer ‘high-quality accommodation while retaining the Victorian charm of the three redeveloped buildings’.
Oliver Gardiner, head of development management at project backer Land Securities, said: ‘We set out to design a “best in class” affordable housing scheme and this has been achieved. This development will offer a mix of new affordable homes and amenity spaces and will be a great place to live. We’re also now able to give the much needed improvement to these Victorian buildings.’
A newbuild block will join the three refurbished buildings. Apartments range between one and four bed units and will be available on an affordable rent, intermediate rent and shared ownership basis in partnership with Sanctuary Housing Association.
Simon Henley of Henley Halebrown Rorrison said: ‘The Castle Lane project is representative of our interest in working with existing historic buildings in a wholly contemporary idiom.
‘In the UK housing market, in particular, it is satisfying to introduce a modern approach to the design of homes within the context of Victorian stock which often has the much cherished qualities of patina and craft that retain a strong appeal to today’s home-owners.’
