Hellman Cartoon

The Hellman Files 97: A trawl through Hellman’s archives, in which we uncover gems as relevant now as they were then

This cartoon is from AJ for 03.11.82, a monument to the Falklands war which allowed Thatcher to do her Churchill impersonation and win a second term. It was a satire on Lutyens’ famous memorials to the First World War dead in Northern France. Poor old Michael Foot in his anorak is trying vainly to scramble up and participate in the “victory”.
