Hellman Cartoon

The Hellman Files 92: A trawl through Hellman’s archives, in which we uncover gems as relevant now as they were then

This cartoon is from the AJ for 08.03.03 when Daniel Libeskind had won the Ground Zero masterplan competition. He also designed the Freedom Tower at 1776 ft (geddit?) whose form ludicrously imitated the Statue of Liberty. But site owner Larry Silverstein brought in David Childs of SOM, architects to mega property speculators, to work with Libeskind to make the tower commercially viable. They got on like oil and water. Needless to say Childs won, as did profit over artitecture.
