Growing Australian big hitter takes on more UK staff

Australian practice HASSELL has warned that it means business in the UK after securing two senior healthcare specialists from Nightingale Associates

HASSELL, which has 12 studios across Australia and Asia, has opened offices in London and Cardiff over the past six months.

Now the burgeoning giant has appointed former Nightingale directors Kieren Morgan and Colin Hockley as principals to lead its UK health and life-care team.

HASSELL’s head of architecture Tony Grist told AJ the new signings would be a major boost in the battle for work on both sides of the world.

‘These two people in particular, but also British architects more generally, have a strong reputation internationally,’ he said.

‘We are definitely pursuing opportunities in the UK and we are also interested in using UK skills internationally.’

Grist added: ‘We know UK architects are competing in Australia and it is only right that we should repay the favour over here. We are very excited to be here and we are very optimistic about our prospects.’

The company was recently shortlisted in the competition in the RIBA Competition to design a new visitor centre at Cronton Colliery (AJ 29.02.2012).
