Grimshaw and AECOM scoop Sydney rail gold
Grimshaw has been selected to design eight new stations as part of the new North West Rail Link in Sydney, Australia
The practice’s Sydney office is part of the AECOM-led consortium which was appointed to oversee the scheme which is being billed as the biggest project in New South Wales.
The new line will connect residents in Sydney’s North West to the city’s central business district via Chatswood and the North Shore Line. More than 200,000 extra people are expected to move into the region over the next 40 years, taking the area’s population above 600,000.
Grimshaw is responsible for architecture throughout the project, inclkuding eight new stations along a new 23km route from Epping to Rouse Hill and Cudgegong Road as part of the first phase of the scheme.
The practice will also work on the upgrade to five existing stations and will work closely with engineers from AECOM and Parsons Brinkerhoff ‘to develop a line-wide identity for bridges, viaducts and other civil engineering elements.’
