Green shoots? Work begins on Fletcher Priest's city office
Construction has started on Fletcher Priest’s 6 Bevis Marks office scheme more than two years after it won planning permission
The 21,370m² scheme replaces ‘an outdated 1980’s office that over-sailed the pavement to form a dark colonnade’ and features a 930m² private roof terrace with an ETFE-clad structure.
Backed by AXA Real Estate, MGPA , EUROHYPO and CORE, the 16-storey office building next to Foster + Partners’ Gherkin is expected to complete next year (2013).
Harry Badham, AXA Real Estate’s UK director of development said: ‘This development, with its spectacular sky-garden on the 16th floor, will provide one of the most exciting additions to the skyline in the City’s tower cluster, alongside the Gherkin and the Heron Tower.
‘Bevis Marks will provide an exceptional workspace and is being delivered at a time when new build space will be in short supply, further emphasising our ability to source innovative assets which have the potential to create significant value for our clients.’

[FIRST LOOK + PROJECT DATA] Planning consent has been granted for this 21,370m² office building at 6 Bevis Marks, London
Replacing an outdated building, the new development is said to enhance the setting of many important buildings round the site, namely the Swiss Re, the Baltic Exchange and Holland House. The project will reconnect existing streets and passages and more than double available public space.
A 930m² private roof terrace enjoys views of Swiss Re and the City skyline. An ETFE-clad structure will maximise use of the terrace throughout the year.
South facing balconies are cantilevered, protecting the interior from solar gain. The recycled glass facade exceeds energy saving requirements by 40 per cent.
