Green light set for Dexter Moren's Barking hotel

Barking and Dagenham Borough Council is expected to approve this sail-shaped 22-storey hotel by Dexter Moren next Thursday (12 August)

The design of the 187-bedroom scheme in Wakering Road, Barking town centre was based on a partially sliced pear and features a rooftop gymnasium, restaurant, bar and function rooms.

Backed by the Thames Gateway Corporation, the project was generally well received by CABE with its design review panel claiming the proposal was a ‘bespoke response to the site’ and hailed the ‘clarity in the expression of the podium and the tower’.

However the commission said it had concerns about the Wakering Road elevation which it said was ‘too busy…’less successful than that facing the railway’ and ‘would benefit from being simplified’.
