Glenn Howells scoops planning for Cardiff HQ

[First look + plans] Glenn Howells Architects has won planning permission for this 20,500m² headquarters building in Cardiff, Wales

Commissioned for motor insurance business Admiral Group, the 11-storey building replaces a car park and will be clad in stone and glass.

The scheme also features a street level colonnaded walkway down the west side of the building with cafes and restaurants.

Sandeep Shambi, project architect at Glenn Howells Architects, explained: ‘Having the excellent opportunity to work so closely with the team that will ultimately occupy the building has enabled us to create a truly flexible, bespoke environment that meets Admiral’s specific working requirements as well as designing a building that Cardiff will be justifiably proud of.

‘The design centres around flexible, open plan floor plates with double height break-out spaces at every floor level creating a naturally lit environment.’

Construction is expected to start in December with the new building opening in early 2014.
