GHM Rock Townsend completes east London community centre

[First look + plans + project data] GHM Rock Townsend has completed this £5 million youth centre for the Osmani Trust in Whitechapel, east London

The 1,500m² Osmani Centre building features a studio, cafe, sports hall, offices and gym.

The project was part-funded by local authority Tower Hamlets Council.

The architect’s view - Lee Mainwaring, associate architect at GHM Rock Townsend

The Osmani Youth Centre is part of a major push in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH) towards youth facilities and regeneration. The project is the first of many that the Borough believes might be the next ‘ideas store’ concept where the entire idea of a Youth Centre has been challenged, as such is a very significant building. These centres will potentially all follow a similar design philosophy set by GHM Rock Townsend through a considerable amount of consultation direct with the Borough’s Children’s Services and Youth Services. This Youth Centre brief developed by us has gone on to be used for two more Youth Centres in Tower Hamlets that are due to start onsite imminently.
