Gensler reveals Olympic park ski slope concept
[FIRST LOOK + PLANS] Gensler has revealed these images of its conceptual project to build a 28,500 m2 ski slope on the International Broadcast Centre site at the Olympic Park in east London
Gensler’s design features Alpine and Nordic skiing facilities plus a snowboard park and an Olympic-sized ‘super-pipe’.
The centre will also host a sports academy, sporting injuries clinic, offices, retail and a hotel.
Triple-Olympian Konrad Bartelski was appointed to work with the design team on the project. He said: ‘By bringing the mountains to east London, that would create an Olympic legacy more exciting than any-one ever imagined.
‘It would be terrific that our young generation would have the opportunity to experience winter sports right here in the capital.’
Malcolm Clulow, Acer Snowmec managing director, said: ‘The anticipated footfall to the Indoor Snow Resort alone could be well in excess of a million visitations a year with the provision of over 3,000 new jobs across a wide and diverse variety of sectors, “Snow in the City” certainly delivers on the Olympic Legacy Promises, breathing new life into the community and its workforce, it will provide a range of apprenticeships and full time real jobs for many years to come, we are building this type of facility all over the World and at last London could be about to be provided with the “best of the best”.’
